Reiki is an old, hands on, form of energy healing.  Reiki is both a spiritual practice, and a healing art.  Reiki is a Japanese word.  ‘Rei’ translates to: ‘universal’, ‘God’, or ‘source’, and ‘ki’ translates to ‘energy’.  Source energy, universal energy, God energy;  it is the energy that is in all things, and permeates every cell in our body.  Arising in the early 1900’s, it was developed by a Japanese Buddhist, Mikao Usui.

The treatment itself consists of a laying of hands, onto the client’s body.  Reiki promotes wellbeing, and enhances the body’s natural healing capabilities.  It can be used as a stand alone treatment, and at the same time, marries well with both traditional, and complimentary healing modalities.  It is non-invasive, gentle, and comforting.  Generally clients will achieve a deep sense of relaxation, occasionally drifting off to sleep, or an otherworldly place.  Clients may also experience, heat, tingling, or other interesting sensations, in their treatment session.

Clients remain fully clothed during a Reiki session.  A light blanket is often used to cover the torso and limbs, lending a sense of nurturing, and care, allowing the client to fully relax, and surrender to the process.
